Wintering is the time to make space to take stock and allowing deep self nourishment, healing and reflection.

 

As winter descends, Nature gracefully slows its pace, inviting us to do the same. In the art of ‘wintering’, we find an opportunity to turn inward, to self-nourish, to rest and to reflect over the past year.

This season, often viewed as a time of quiet dormancy, holds the key to replenishing our spirits and embracing the transformative power of stillness.

Embracing Wintering: A Season of Self-Nourishment and Rest

The Magic of Wintering:

Wintering is more than a season; it’s a state of mind. As the world outside hibernates beneath blankets of cold winds, ice and even snow — we, too, can cocoon ourselves in moments of introspection. It’s a chance to acknowledge the cycles of life, to honor the ebb and flow that exists not only in Nature but deep within our Souls.

Self-Nourishment in Stillness

Amid the chill of winter, we find warmth in self-nourishment. This is the time to indulge in the simple pleasures that feed our Soul — whether it’s curling up with a good book, sipping a steaming cup of camomile tea, or taking leisurely walks in the crisp air. In the realm of spirituality, words carry a profound energy that transcends mere language. The synergy of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), intentional self-talk, and the use of high vibrational words creates a potent elixir for personal transformation. Your unconscious mind runs the show and is listening, so it is important to become aware of the language you use. Avoid using negative sentences as your Unconscious mind does not hear the negation.

The Negative Impact of ‘Should’

One word that often slips into our self-talk is ‘should‘. While seemingly innocuous, the energy behind this word can be limiting, it somes with a sense of having to do something you don’t really want to do. Instead of using ‘should’ as a command, consider transforming it into a gentle suggestion.

This subtle shift can release resistance and foster a more compassionate and empowering dialogue with yourself – ‘I want to …..’ or ‘I need to do….  because (positive result)’.

7. FIND TIME FOR HOBBIES AND PASSIONS

  • Engaging in activities you love can provide an immediate mood boost and enhance your overall quality of life. Doing something you truly enjoy is a major happiness booster.

8.  TAKE CARE OF YOUR PHYSICAL HEALTH

  • A well-balanced diet, adequate sleep, and regular health check-ups contribute to your overall sense of well-being. Eating the right diet will make your feel good in yourself and able to do more things you enjoy.

9. LIMIT EXPOSURE TO NEGATIVE NEWS

  • Turn off the news – consuming less negative news can reduce anxiety and improve your outlook on life.

10.  CULTIVATE A POSITIVE MINDSET

  • Shift your focus towards positivity, reframe negative thoughts, and maintain a hopeful perspective. Work to strengthen your mindset and become more resilient.

In today’s fast-paced world, preventing burnout is crucial for maintaining your physical and mental well-being. Burnout can impact your personal and professional life, so it’s essential to take proactive steps to protect your health.

Ten Effective Ways to Prevent Burnout and Maintain Your Well-Being

Unfortunately, I have hit burnout twice in my life and I wanted to share some simple tips to make sure it doesn’t happen to you.

Here are TEN effective ways to prevent burnout and ensure you stay at the top of your health and well-being:

1. AWARENESS

Start to become of aware of how you are feeling and learn to recognise when you are beginning to feel overwhelmed by things. Being AWARE is key to understanding how your world is affecting you and by practising self-awareness, you build an understanding of yourself and know when things are getting too much.

By implementing a DAILY ENERGY AWARENESS CHECK, you tune into yourself and track your energy highs and lows. Moreover, do this regularly and it will help you to spot when things are getting too much so you can take preventative steps.

2. BOUNDARIES

BOUNDARIES are invisible walls of protection. They are an important line of defence to protect your wellbeing. Make it clear, firstly to yourself, what is acceptable and what is not. Then hold yourself to them and learn to push back. Boundaries are there for a reason, so use them.

Create clear boundaries between work and personal life, particularly important if you are working from home.  Regulate your work and personal time and create a clear separation.

3. GET A GOODNIGHT’S SLEEP

Ensure you get enough quality sleep each night. Sleep is crucial for physical and mental rejuvenation. Try and stick to a regular bedtime and make time to allow your mind to unwind (avoid blue screens at least 30 minutes before bed…

4. TAKE BREAKS

Regular breaks throughout the day are essential. Even short breaks can refresh your mind and help maintain focus and productivity.

TWO MINUTE TIME OUT: step away from the ‘drama’ and breath. Take ten long, slow inhales and exhales. This activates your parasympathetic nervous system which will help to reduce your heart rate and anxiety levels.

5.  TIME MANAGEMENT

Efficiently manage your time by setting realistic goals, prioritising tasks, and avoiding over-commitment. Time management reduces stress and prevents feeling overwhelmed. To do lists are great ways to keep control of your tasks.

6.  SELF-CARE

This is another non-negotiable… Schedule time in your day for at least 10-minutes of self-care. This is way for your body to de-stress and allow your energy to re-fuel.

Self-care can take many forms, such as reading a book, a bath, meditation, a run or yoga practice. It is a way for your body to decompress from the pressures of the day and aid recovery.

7. LEARN TO SAY ‘NO’

Don’t be afraid to decline additional tasks or responsibilities when you’re already stretched thin. Saying NO is a valuable skill that protects your energy.

If you are a ‘people-pleaser’ it is hard to say ‘No’, however, remember you are saying it so you protect your health to care for your loved ones – do it for them, if not yourself.

8.  EAT WELL AND EXERCISE

A balanced diet with nutritious foods provides your body with the energy it needs to cope with stress. Avoid excessive caffeine, sugary snacks and alcohol which can lead to energy crashes. Your body requires a good range of vitamins and minerals to work.

If you have little time to eat, grab a salad or a piece of fruit and drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated.

9. MINDFULNESS AND RELAXATION

Practice mindfulness meditation and relaxation techniques to reduce stress and increase resilience. These practices help you stay calm in the face of challenges.

10.  SEEK HELP

Share your concerns and challenges with friends, family, or a therapist. Talking about your feelings can provide emotional support and help prevent burnout. 

Many of us really don’t know ourselves very well, and in particular busy women. Take time to explore WHO YOU ARE and WHAT YOU WANT/NEED.

The more you understand yourself and your own needs and desires, the easier it will be to know when things are not right for you. Make yourself a mini-research project – daily journaling is a great way to do this.

YOU are responsible for YOU.

Make sure your well-being energy cup is topped up first, so you have enough to help others.

Take ownership of your life and work out what is best for you. When you are living a life with PURPOSE, you will create a deeper connection with yourself and understanding of what is right for you.

SOUL Magic Blog Post Kindness and Compassion

KINDNESS IS THE RIPPLE THAT IS CAPABLE OF TRANSFORMING THE WORLD AND COMPASSION IS THE GUILDING LIGHT IN A WORLD OF DARKNESS. 

In my mind, KINDNESS and COMPASSION are two of the most powerful tools at your disposal to change the world in a positive way. They require only your awareness and love to make this world a better place for everyone.

The words COMPASSION and KINDNESS are sometimes used interchangeably, but the two words have distinctive meanings. 

KINDNESS is defined as “the quality or state of being kind,” or “a kind deed,” according to Merriam-Webster. 

COMPASSION on the other hand, is a “sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it,” according to Merriam-Webster.

 

KINDNESS AND COMPASSION ARE YOUR GIFTS TO MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER FOR PLACE

Kindness is doing what you can, when you can, with what you have.”

Kindness is a force that knows no boundaries, transcending language, culture, and creed. It’s a universal language that unites hearts and mends souls. When we extend a hand of kindness, we initiate a ripple effect that can transform not only individual lives but the entire world.

Kindness is not confined to grand gestures or extravagant displays of generosity. It’s often found in the simplest acts—a smile to a stranger, a helping hand to someone in need, or a compassionate ear to listen. It costs nothing but means everything.

Acts of kindness generate a chain reaction. When we receive kindness, we’re more inclined to pay it forward, perpetuating a cycle of goodwill. It creates connections and builds bridges, fostering a sense of unity and compassion among people.

Kindness holds the power to heal wounds, bridge divides, and bring hope to the weary. It reminds us that, despite our differences, we are all interconnected in the tapestry of humanity. In a world that can sometimes seem tumultuous, kindness remains a steady anchor, reminding us of our shared humanity and the potential for positive change that resides within us all.

So, as we navigate the complexities of life, let us remember the simple yet profound truth: kindness has the power to transform, to heal, and to unite. It’s a force that each of us holds within our hearts, ready to be unleashed. In the grand tapestry of existence, let kindness be the thread that binds us all together.

COMPASSION

Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.

Compassion is the radiant light that cuts through the darkest clouds of human suffering. It’s an innate quality, a universal language spoken by the heart, transcending boundaries and connecting souls. In a world often overshadowed by turmoil and strife, compassion stands as a beacon of hope and healing.

Compassion is not just empathy but the willingness to take action. It’s the profound understanding that we all carry our own burdens and battles. When we embrace compassion, we acknowledge the humanity in others and offer a hand of support, a heart that listens, and a shoulder to lean on.

It has the power to mend wounds, to bridge divides, and to inspire change. Compassion is not reserved for saints or sages; it’s a quality inherent in every individual. When we extend compassion, we plant the seeds of kindness and unity, and from those seeds, blooms a world more harmonious, understanding, and filled with love.

In a universe where compassion is the guiding star, humanity’s collective journey becomes one of healing, reconciliation, and profound connection. Let compassion be the force that propels us toward a brighter, more compassionate world.

COMPASSION PRACTICE:
Spend 5-10 minutes today exploring where you can learn to be/show more compassion in your life. Is there a someone, or a situation where you could step in and be compassionate?
(Remember: this can also include yourself, as sometimes we are not compassionate to ourselves in difficult situations).
