Introvert

Quiet people have the loudest minds.

– Stephen Hawkings

What is an INTROVERT?

An INTROVERT is someone who is considered to be shy or reticent with others.

I am an Introvert and this definition does not wholly do justice to the Introvert personality type, we are more complex than people think as we are often highly sensitive people (HSP). We feel emotions strongly and often are serious over-thinkers. This means that the noise in our minds can be pretty loud and when you add in the mix of a highly charged emotional situation – we easily develop sensory overload.

In large group situations, we are challenged to survive the barrage of noise and emotions on display. In order to protect ourselves, we try to find a quiet place to rebalance, or after such an event, we will seek solace in our safe sanctuary to calm down and soothe ourselves. We will be drained physically and emotionally. Many Extroverts do not understand how certain enviroments drain us, while they will feel invigorated (buzzing) after attending the same event.

Introverts are bright people with much to offer the world.
They just prefer one-to-one, or small group, interaction.

By the time I was in my 20s, I had learned the skill of MASKING. It was a mechanism I adopted to help cope with all the challenges and social aspects of my life at that time. I had moved to London, and then to Paris, for work and social engagements were a vital part of the role. Ask most people who knew me back then and they would have said I was an EXTROVERT. However, my close friends knew that there were times when I would need to hide away, needing ‘alone time’ to rebalance and recharge.

As I have gotten older, I know myself better and understand how important it is for me to have space to myself. Boundaries are one way to put up protection and enforcing them is an important part of my self-care. Of course, there are always events or circumstances that you can’t get out off and for these occasions I aim to have time before and afterwards to rebalance my mind and body. Before I walk into a room filled with people, I imagine myself in a bubble of protection to help protect my energy from ‘energy vampires’ and put on my sociable mask. I will admit it does depend on the people in attendance – if it is close friends and people I enjoy their company, then it is less of an ordeal.

Here are some of the things I do to help recover:

  • Sit in my garden in peace and enjoy the nature around me
  • Listen to music that calms me (I love classical piano)
  • Listen to a meditation
  • Walk by the sea
  • Read a book I enjoy (and if I’m really exhausted, I will close my eyes and listen to an audio book)
  • Do some breathing exercise
  • So some simple energy recovery practices
  • Grounding – walk barefoot on the grass, or swim in the sea

These are a few of the things I choose to do, but you might find that putting on upbeating music and dancing alone works for you, or you might prefer to journal about your day.

Being alone is not isolation – it is nourishment
for the Introvert’s Soul

Love

This fire we call ‘loving’ is too strong for human minds.
But just right for human souls.

– Aberhjani (Elemental: The Power of Illuminated Love)

What is LOVE?

To me, when I think of LOVE, I feel it is all encompassing – it is the feeling of being safely held in an embrace by someone who loves me unconditionally.

It feels like HOME.

Love is a word that is so often misused in our society. It is used by influencers on TikTok as they promote the latest lipstick or pair of shoes. However, LOVE is so much more, it is powerful and holds a high vibrational energy 500Hz) when you truly feel it.

It is fuel for our Heartfield, a crucial part of our body’s energy systems. When we feel love, it fills and expands our heartfield, making us feel sure about who we are and our purpose. It gives us stability which means when we face challenges we experience less emotional overload. We have faith that everything will work out.

LOVE is all you need.

When people are struggling and feeling life is against them, it is often that love is missing in their lives. As human beings, and certainly as energetic beings, we need love. We come from love and will return to love, and need love to complete us.

Many seek love from others and rush into relationships believing they are in love. However, the relationship or marriage doesn’t last as it was not founded on the true essence of love. Instead, we need to learn to love ourselves and by doing so we gain clarity on who we are and what we need to bring us happiness. Making time and space to do this is a vital first step in the healing process and the more we know ourselves, we are more empowered to make better choices.

SELF-LOVE is the first step to living authentically with love at your core.

Fear is the absence of LOVE.

Angels

Their wings wrap gently around you,
whispering you are loved and blessed.

– Angel Blessing

Do you believe in Angels?

When I think back across my life, I know that someone has been looking out for me.

On one occasion, when my car was in a freak accident – it was hit by a cable, which caused me to miss the turn into the corner and the car I was driving rolled off the side of a Swiss mountain. I can honestly say that I thought that was it – game over.

Surprisingly, I was calm and I remember thinking if I’m to die now, I have had an incredible lifeas the car rolled and slid down the steep bank. There were many things that day which miraculously fell into place. Firstly, where the accident happened had a good number of trees down the bank which stopped the car plunging down into a valley, and secondly, there were people working across the road from where it happened and they saw the car go over – normally they would have not been around at that time. As I was hanging upside down in the driver’s seat, they called for help and rushed to my rescue. Apart from a few bruises, a stiff neck and being embarrassed – I walked away, whereas the car was a write-off.

I will admit I was anxious about driving again especially on that twisty mountain road. I had to do a lot of work to push through my fear. And now, every time I drive, I call upon my ‘angel team’ to keep me safe.

I wholeheartedly believe if I had not done so, I would have died that day.

Angels support us, we need only ask for their help and
provided it is for our highest good, they will do so.

Growing up in a religious household, I was very aware of angels from a bibical perspective. However, they never felt real but merely images in children’s bible story books.

As I progress on my spiritual journey, I have become a believer and know there are forces around us supporting us throughout our life experiences. When I have been in frightening situation (both real and imaginery – blame my active imagination!), I always call upon my ‘angel team’ to be with me and keep me safe.

They guide us as we seek to become better versions of ourselves, to heal trauma, change old patterns and step into love. By inviting ANGELS into our lives and putting our trust in them – having FAITH – life will start to shift in many positive ways. And when challenges arises (as they will do), we are better equipped to deal with them – and not feel so alone.

You will never feel alone when you invite your Angel Team to support you.

If you wish to know about ANGELS, please listen/watch Episode 4 of the ‘Heart and Soul’ show with myself and the incredible Caroline Palmy when we chat about our own personal experiences of working with angels.

Empath

Empaths did not come into this world to be victims,
we came to be warriors.
Be brave. Stay strong.
We need all hands on deck.

– Anthon St. Maarten

What is an EMPATH?

An EMPATH is a person highly attuned to the feelings and emotions of those around them. Empaths feel what another person is feeling at a deep emotional level.

I am an EMPATH and it has been a challenge my entire life until I finally found out what it meant.

Upon beginning my healing and spiritual journey, I discovered the truth of being an empath. As a child I always felt I was odd or strange in the way I felt so strongly the world around me. This was particularly difficult growing up in the midst of the turmoil and bitterness of 70s Northern Ireland. I struggled with the collective energies of anger, fear and hatred. It was frightening and draining. To cope, I found solace in fantasy novels and sitting up a tree. Over time, I shutdown my emotions following several traumatic incidents which totally uprooted me. Like so many people today, I was a zombie going through the motions of an ordinary life – living a half-life on auto-pilot.

The realisation that I was an ‘empath’, also known as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), was like a light being turned on and I finally understood why I was the way I was.  It was liberating to find out that there were other people like me. And since, then I have learned to embrace my empathic nature as a gift, a blessing from above, to aid me in my own healing work and for working with others.

Finding out that I was an EMPATH
was a liberating experience –

it was a major ‘AHA!’ moment
in my life.

After researching and talking with other supportive spiritual healers, I adopted different ways to protect my emotional and energetic systems. This was vital, as I would find being in spaces with lots of people overwhelming, leaving me drained. Being with negative people sucked my energy like ‘energy vampires’. Thanks to support and learning protection techniques, I started to rebalance my energy and feel stronger. I also had more clarity regarding my life purpose and could make better decisions.

Spending time in Nature is a wonderful
way to replenish your energy
and clear any negative emotional energy
which has been absorbed.

If you wish to know about being an EMPATH, please listen/watch Episode 3 of the ‘Heart and Soul’ show with myself and the incredible Caroline Palmy when we chat about our own personal experiences as empaths and share some simple techniques to help you protect yourself (links below).

Fear

Of all the liars in the world,
sometimes the worst
are our own fears.

– Rudyard Kipling

What is Fear?

Fear is the an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm.

FEAR is a perceived as an negative emotion, however, going back to primitive ‘man’, it had a role of keeping us alive. It was an alert mechanism to any possible threat of danger, all in an effort to keep us alive by kicking in hormones to get the body ready to run or to fight back. This is known as ‘Fight or Flight’ mode and unfortunately in today’s world this alert mechanism recognises may ‘possible threats’ and kicks in. When this happens it keeps pumping stress hormones into our bodies and causing havoc with our minds and well-being.

Alas, following the pandemic and the negative reporting constantly in the media about wars, disasters and global crisis, many people are spiralling down into ‘fear’.  Empaths/Highly Sensitive People, such as myself, feel this collective fear growing and it is not good for the planet and humanity. When people fear, their behaviours can become aggressive (fight mode) in an effort to protect themselves.

Things need to change
and the only thing
you can change
is you.

Don’t buy into the fear mongering media. Turn off the news and tune into your own well-being by doing things your enjoy.

For example, something I find that really helps me is to spend time in Nature. It is extremely healing and will support raising your vibrational energy, which is key for spiritual growth and development. The more you lift yourself out of the ‘fear’, the more you can work on yourself and reconnecting with your soul – this has the wonderful knock-on effect of making you feel safer and your ‘positive’ energy will ripple out to the people you connect with.

If you wish to know about ‘fear’ and overcoming it, please listen/watch Episode 2 of the ‘Heart and Soul’ show with myself and the incredible Caroline Palmy when we chat about ‘fear’, our own personal experiences and share some simple techniques to help you push through it.
